1920’s Themed Wedding

Alastair Currie Events provided event design and management for a sensational 1920’s themed wedding, hosted within a double decker marquee at our client’s residence in Gloucestershire.
The 1920’s themed wedding extravaganza was planned and developed over an 18 month period including an on-site build taking 5 weeks to completion. In the last few days leading up to the wedding, goody bags were delivered to guests at their private home or hotel accommodation which were fully equipped with personalised treats.
Throughout the wedding weekend, 24/7 private transportation complete with personalised signage was provided including arrangements for all airport transfers and collections from hotels and private residences. Parents were able to drop off their children at the venue to an efficient team of nannies who were to hand for the duration of the day.
Spectacular floral arches welcomed guests on arrival into the grounds and into the porch, which was adorned with a collection of pretty storm lanterns with church candles and scattered rose petals. Inside the church extravagant dome bouquets of white hydrangea and avalanche roses stood on tall white columns with a trio of callalilies strung with white ribbon onto each pew-end. The central window was adorned with an opulent display of hydrangea and tall church candles were on every available surface with white petals. The beautiful service was accompanied by the sounds of the Bristol String Sextet and the Bath Camerata Choir who performed specially chosen musical pieces and hymns selected by the bride and groom. The Choir enhanced the organist-accompanied hymns perfectly and sang beautifully during the signing of the register, whilst the Sextet performed as the guests arrived and for the recessional to conclude the ceremony using the bride’s favourite musical pieces.
The 1920’s themed wedding reception took place at the family’s private residence only a short distance away from the Church with guests being transported on waiting mini-coaches. Upon arrival guests were greeted with flutes of champagne and guided along a walkway which was lined with delicate tonto lanterns filled with colourful rose petals. Ornately decorated white and gold Indian tents were erected throughout the enchanting garden providing a place of tranquillity with relaxing day beds, vibrantly coloured silk cushions, stunning chandeliers and Moroccan style lanterns.
As dusk advanced, guests made their way through the trees along the twinkling walkway towards the double decker marquee. On receipt of calligraphied escort cards they ascended a central staircase, beautifully lit and finished, wowed by the elegant decorations of handmade feather chandeliers, mirrored table tops, bespoke mirror mangers of red roses and crystal candlesticks. A specially designed bar was sited in front of the main house visible through the clear gable-end. A black baby grand had made its way up the stairs for a pianist to tinkle the ivories throughout dinner. Guests were treated to an incredible service of exquisite food with five courses alongside wines chosen especially for each service by the family vintner. Guests enjoyed glass cloches of haggis, neeps and tatties, a consommé shot, scallops with crab and langoustine followed by a main of fillet and daube of Scottish beef. Dessert was a delectable crème brulée for the ladies and an apple tarte tatin for the gentlemen. After dining, and the cutting of the four tiered art deco inspired cake, the bride and groom descended to the mirrored dancefloor – previously hidden by a 3D box reveal screen – for their incredible choreographed first dance watched by guests on the balcony above.
The 12-piece band kicked off the 1920’s themed wedding evening celebrations as the marquee was transformed with coloured lighting and LED light columns. The Great Gatsby bar, which had been hidden as a surprise beneath the dining area, invited guests to enjoy a variety of cocktails created by flair mixologists. Plumed columns stood either side of the sparkling, mirror-topped bar, for a 1920’s nightclub look. A vintage Photobooth with an incredible assortment of props and fancy dress items kept guests entertained all evening as they created wedding memories for the guest book. Excitement spread as guests waited on outside balconies for the surprise entertainment. As the music built to crescendo an acrobat bounced into the air suspended beneath a clear helium balloon lit from a single spot-light. Guests were captivated during the heliosphere performance as the acrobat appeared to walk across the sky towards guests. A breathtaking fireworks display illuminated the sky behind the performer providing a memorable, amazing moment.
