A Dream Waterfront Wedding

Devon, July 2010

A waterfront wedding ceremony over 40 miles away from the reception venue required a great deal of planning, especially with over 200 guests attending. In order to beat the traffic, Alastair Currie Events organised a luxury river cruise as the ultimate pre-reception treat.

On docking, guests were met by a strolling brass band leading them towards the reception. Moving statues, a steel band and very smartly attired staff with trays of canapes and champagne greeted guests.

The bespoke marquee was designed to showcase the stunning surroundings, with clear window walls allowing guests to look out over the waterfront and the marquee built against the existing garden colonnade to provide some texture and truly decadent finish.  Juxtaposed to the exposed brick work, the dining space was filled with a crisp white carpet and chairs, tables topped with crisp mirrors and and towering candelabras to provide pure elegant and glamour.

Provided by Fosters Event Catering, guests were treated to canapes including goujons of sole with tartar sauce, mushroom risotto balls, quail egg tartlets , salmon rillette salad and crab wontons. A five course meal beginning with Beesand crab and avocado salad with cold tomato consomme, followed by Brixham  scallops with Thai puree, bean sprout stir fry, manage tout, shitake mushrooms and lemon grass veloute. Tender Devon beef fillet was served with roasted shallots, celeriac puree, wild mushrooms, aspargus and a rich red wine sauce. Fresh and perfect for summer, an exotic fruit salad and passionate fruit sorbet was served ahead of petit fours.

Following a performance by an incredible break dancing troup, our bride and groom took to the white star lit dance floor under a canopy of stars for their first dance, aided by a fantastic band who helped their guests to dance all night long. The perfect celebration in any waterfront wedding, guests were treated to a stunning firework display from the centre of the river, the perfect end to a dreamy day.

We work all over the South West and London, what your chosen mode of transport don’t hesitate to contact the team and arrange your big day.

The whole day certainly went off with a bang, it truly was the best day of our lives – words can’t describe how much fun we had and it’s all thanks to you both for all the hard work and effort that you put into making it the marvellous day it was! What’s lovely is to hear from every single guest that they too had the most amazing time, that it was a day they will never forget and won’t stop talking about for years to come!
