History

Founded in 1140 by Robert Fitzharding, Bristol Cathedral is one of England’s finest medieval churches. Its iconic East End is known for its vaulted ceilings, completed in the 16th century. After the dissolution of the abbey under Henry VIII, the Cathedral became part of a “New Foundation” in 1542, with continued development through the centuries. The nave, restored by G.E. Street in 1868, and the 1907 organ are highlights of its architectural and cultural heritage.
