Nestled in the heart of Bristol, Clifton College is a breath-taking venue steeped in history and Victorian elegance. Renowned for its striking architecture and beautifully landscaped grounds, it offers a versatile and memorable setting for a wide range of events.

 

With seven rooms available for hire, including the Grand Hall, Cricket Pavilion, Newbolt Room, Headmaster’s Corridor, The Library, Crypt and Chapel with some rooms providing a versatile setting for up to 200 seated guests. The iconic Memorial Arch, a Grade II listed tribute to those lost in the world wars, offers a striking photographic entrance, leading to The Close – the beautifully manicured cricket ground with views of the chapel and college. The venue’s on-site catering team can tailor food and drink options to suit any event style.

History

Opened in 1862 by Dr John Percival, Clifton College has a rich history of innovation and inclusivity. It made headlines for including science in its curriculum and welcoming Jewish boarders, known as Polacks. During World War II, it served as the US Army headquarters. The college has been home to notable alumni, including Trevor Howard, John Cleese, and John Inverdale. Its grounds hold historic significance, such as hosting the second-highest cricket score in a single match in 1899.
