History

The Roman Baths date back almost 2,000 years, built around natural hot springs that still flow today. The Romans constructed a magnificent bathing complex and temple, dedicated to the goddess Sulis Minerva. Rediscovered in the 18th Century, the Roman Baths became a major attraction, leading to the elegant Georgian Pump Rooms getting constructed in 1795. Today, these remain Bath’s most iconic landmarks, attracting around one million visitors each year.
