We were delighted to assist in creating a special celebration for the 250th year of the Bristol Old Vic.
After some incredible performances, including a special tribute to the beautiful carved wooden horse who takes centre stage in the award winning production War Horse, guests were invited onto the stage to enjoy a sensational banquet. During the performances, tables were hidden behind the scenes and pulled forward once the actors had taken their final bow. Guests dined underneath structural branch centrepieces, adorned with glass globes filled within tealights and hanging mementos of the Bristol Old Vic brand.
The menu, created by Foster Event Catering, was a tribute to the theatre. Bringing to life ancient stories, flavours and memories of the venue.
Tables were set behind the scenes during the show, and pulled forward once the actors had left the stage. Guests dined underneath structural branch centrepieces, adorned with glass globes with battery tealights and hanging logos of the Bristol Old Vic 250th brand.
The duck-egg blue runners and seat-pad covers off-set the starkness of the dining location ‘right on the stage’ and the menu was punctuated with performances and speeches, celebrating the history and future of this incredible building and theatrical organisation.
Originally build in 1766, Bristol Old Vic is the oldest continuously working English speaking theatre. Built without Royal approval, the theatre operated illegally for 12 years before being granted a patent and became known as the Theatre Royal. Bristol Old Vic was funded initially by 50 men and women who donated £50 in return for a “silver ticket” – it gave them access to watch every performance, forever. To mark the anniversary, new silver tickets costing £50,000 have been sold to help fund redevelopment. As well as our anniversary dinner, celebrations have included performances of plays from each of the four centuries in which it has been in operation.
