Another year, another Moonwalk! Every year we send our Assistant Event Manager to help Alastair on the annual charity event, dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research, and this year Beth took to London to experience the process from the very beginning to the finale.
Like every year, the transformation of an empty space on Clapham Common was nothing short of magical. What was once a blank green space soon transformed into a vibrant area of pink tents, neon flags, and a dazzling array of decorated bras. The dedicated ACEs team, SLX and CMC crew, worked for five days prior to the event, erecting tents of all sizes and moving endless fencing into place and organising all the lighting and sound. With seamless organisation and effective communication, the site gradually took shape, complete with trackways, offices, marquees, and miles of fencing. The central stage became the focal point, ready for the Walk the Walk team to host the exciting evening ahead.
On the day of the event, the energy was high, with the finishing touches being added. Colourful flags, water units and food vans were strategically placed, at the gates eagerly awaited the arrival of the participants. As the gates opened, 5,000+ individuals flooded in, all dressed up in feather boas, vibrant hats, and of course creatively decorated bras, you could feel the excitement and energy in the air.
At 8:30pm the walkers set off onto the marathon route. With a steel band and show girls seeing them off, the ACEs team unleashed the confetti cannons, filling the sky with a colourful confetti. This marked the commencement of their night-time journey. It was such an amazing experience to watch on the staging above, 5000 people begin their journey, cheering and encouraging each other on, all walking to raise money for a cause that has touched the lives of so many.
The Moonwalk 2023 held special significance, as it marked the event’s 25th anniversary. It was a monumental occasion, and the participants rose to the occasion, collectively raising nearly £2 million. We would like to congratulate all the incredible individuals who participated and would like to thank you for your continued support.
