Nestled in the heart of London, Alastair Currie Events ventured to the glorious Clapham Common for Alastair’s 14th MoonWalk. Founded by Nina Barough, Walk the Walk hosts marathons across the world in order to raise incredible funds for breast cancer. We are absolutely delighted to be involved with the Moonwalk London and Moonwalk Edinburgh annually.
The MoonWalk site, made up of several structures and one spectacular pink main tent (the largest in Europe!) becomes an event village for two weeks preparing for the arrival of 18,000 men and women for their overnight walk. Bursting with contractors, suppliers, labourers and volunteers who all want to do the best possible job for this amazing cause. It’s continually refreshing to see the pride and passion that the teams have put into their work every day, from toilets to trackway, fencing to furniture hire, it’s a huge operation and a great work ethic from all those on site!
Gathered in the pink marquee, walkers were treated to a hearty vegetarian meal and flapjack, before being inspired and entertained by some incredible guests. Compered by the wonderful Heart Radio crew, the walker’s line-danced and sang to a variety of musicians including a wonderful Dolly Parton tribute act – a wonderful addition to this year’s Wild West theme.
A minutes silence was followed by a rapturous roar and round of applause as everyone was invited to reflect on their own reasons and motivation for walking or volunteering. Still cheering and chanting as they crossed the start line, it was clear that everyone was walking with purpose and determination. As morning broke, shouts of jubilation and pride could be heard as the walkers crossed the finish line hand in hand. After a hot drink and a chance to kick off their walking boots, many were already signing up for MoonWalk 2019 – we will look forward to seeing you all there.
